getting started

So, I'm sitting here wondering if I actually have something to say that is blog worthy.  I'm pretty sure I don't, but I will still blog.  If it's not entertaining for others, it's still a necessary outlet for my own sanity... sanity amid insanity.  The story of my life...

It's the end of June and while most mothers can't wait until the end of school when all of their little cherubs are home for them to nurture and love and entertain, I am not one of those moms.  Don't get me wrong, I love my children with all of my being.  With that being said, I often say "I know why animals eat their young".  They are amazing children and are on the normal side (you have to take into account the genetic pool in which they were conceived from), but they can get under my skin.  I was never one of those moms who sat down with their kids and had snack time and craft time... and I'm still not.  I'm the mom who had kids (note the plural) so that they could entertain each other.  My kids are amazing at using their imaginations... and while I didn't instill the imagination, I'd like to think that I helped it along by forcing them to use their brains instead of me holding their hands and telling them what to do and how to play.  Sometimes that can back fire though...

A few days ago Maya and Ethan came down the stairs after playing dress up.  Now let me tell you first that Maya had come for permission to put on make-up.  No biggie.  We weren't going anywhere so I didn't see the harm in a little make-up while playing dress up.  Anyway, the little imaginative children came down the stairs and entered the living room.  Let me just say, I am so thankful that I wasn't eating or drinking at the time because I would have choked or spit everything all over the room...

There stood Maya all pretty in her flower girl dress with a sundress over it and next to her stood Ethan.  Ethan, my 7 year old son, sporting a pink plaid sundress over top of his grungy boy tee shirt.  Not only did he have the beautiful dress on, but he also had sparkly pink lip gloss and a purple ribbon.

I didn't know what to say or do... which doesn't usually happen to me.  There stood my handsome boys boy in drag.

I'm pretty sure that it was his idea to dress like that.  Maya said it was and he tried to deny it... but he was blushing and not crying... so I think she was right.  Needless to say, I got my head together and told him to take that all off.

Gotta watch those imaginations...
